Statutory Information

ABP, by virtue of the Humber Conservancy Acts 1852-1907 and the Humber Harbour Reorganisation Scheme 1966 (Confirmation Order 1967), is the Conservancy and Navigation Authority for the River Humber (including the Lower Trent up to Gainsborough) and also the Local Lighthouse Authority - within the meaning of the Merchant Shipping Act 1894.

ABP is also the beneficial owner of most of the bed and foreshores of the Humber and parts of the Trent and Ouse, by virtue of long-term leases from the Crown for 999 years (1869 and 1872).

This section endeavours to unravel the legal framework that governs the everyday activities of ABP HES. In particular, follow the progress of ABP HES towards full compliance with the provisions of the government's Port Marine Safety Code. This section also covers the requirements necessary to carry out marine works in the estuary and much, much more.
