Navigational Safety

ABP HES operates a Port and Vessel Information System (PAVIS), which is the vehicle through which the Competent Harbour Authority monitors and controls the safety of navigation on the river.

The system provides a fully-integrated administration and information system for pilotage and vessel traffic services.

The system is split over two sites:

• Spurn Point, Control Tower
• Port House, Hull.

The control tower provides the traffic monitoring and control function at Port House, where the information assembly part of the system is located. This gives a clear point of entry for agents to pass information and requirements for pilots for all Humber, Trent and Ouse ports, jetties, etc.

VTS, Humber, divides the river into two districts: VTS Humber Approaches and VTS Humber.
